A Louisville lawyer, start to finish

Justin Gooch was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Kentucky in 2008 and his Juris Doctor from the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville in 2011, passing the Kentucky Bar Exam the same year. He is licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.

Two years on the other side

Justin began his legal career as an Assistant Jefferson County Attorney, serving from 2011 to 2013. As a prosecutor he managed thousands of cases across a range of areas, and he learned how the Commonwealth evaluates evidence, charges cases and decides what to offer. That experience shapes every criminal defense matter Gooch Law takes on: Justin knows what a prosecutor is looking for, where a case is weak and when to push.

Eleven years of personal injury work

From 2013 to 2024 Justin practiced at Schuler Law Office, where he was mentored by David Schuler. Those years were pivotal in shaping his approach to personal injury law, from investigating a wreck to negotiating with insurers and trying a case when the offer is not fair. While his practice spans several areas, personal injury remains its center.

A legacy of legal service

Justin grew up in Louisville's south end, where his father operated a private practice focused on wills and probate. He continues to honor that legacy by maintaining and integrating his father's practice into his own, which is why Gooch Law handles wills, estate planning and probate alongside injury and criminal work.

Kentucky's horse industry

As an undergraduate, Justin gained extensive experience in Kentucky's Thoroughbred industry, working for Claiborne Farm, Keeneland, The Jockey Club and WinStar Farm. He still draws on that background when a client's matter touches the equine world.

Professional affiliations

Justin is a member of the Louisville Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association and the Kentucky Justice Association.

Away from the office

Justin is married and the father of two sons. When he is not in a courtroom he coaches his children's sports teams, plays soccer, golf and basketball, and takes part in Louisville's community life.

Why it matters to you

A one-attorney firm means the person who answers your first call is the person who handles your case. No hand-offs, no case managers, no surprises about who is showing up in court.

The horse business

Claiborne, Keeneland, The Jockey Club, WinStar.

Before law school Justin worked inside Kentucky's Thoroughbred industry at some of its best-known names. It is an unusual background for a Louisville lawyer, and it means that when a client's matter involves horses, farms or the racing world, Justin already speaks the language.
